Elizabeth Convery knows a thing or two about living a full life as a real estate business owner. She leads VERY Real Estate team in Philadelphia, launched her own coaching business this year and is mother to 2 kids under the age of six. Whew! We sat down with Elizabeth to get her take on leading consciously at work and at home.
On leading with authenticity:
Pennsylvania, where my team is located, was the only state that deemed real estate services non-essential during COVID. It was a very challenging time for my team, as we faced both the fear of the virus and the financial impact of not being able to work.
After a few months, Pennsylvania reversed its decision, but my team still felt lingering anxiety as we resumed property sales. As the Team Lead, I decided to address these fears directly, engaging the team to develop policies and procedures for working safely with clients as COVID numbers continued to rise.
By showing vulnerability and sharing my own fears and concerns, I helped the team become more united. The policies we created not only helped our clients feel more at ease, but also became a model for our brokerage.
On leveraging a “curious” mindset:
By adopting a curious mindset, I am always challenging myself to go one level deeper to understand why a difficult situation might be happening. I find by asking more questions and actively listening to the answers, I am better positioned to respond thoughtfully.
On the importance of play and rest:
I think real estate is a business where you could work every day if you let yourself. I discourage my team from working on Sundays unless absolutely necessary. I think an entire day to shut down is incredibly important to recharge and with rest, we become the best version of ourselves.
On setting boundaries:
One of the core values of my team is “Sometimes the truth hurts, but we tell it anyway.” It’s shaped the way we interact with each other and with our clients. =
Her favorite tech tool:
My Remarkable is my favorite tool! It allows me to write page upon page on-the-go without carrying a heavy notebook. Plus, it backs up to the cloud!
